Apprentice Finish Carpenter

Job Description

Burkhart Carpentry is looking for an Apprentice Finish Carpenter in an Independent Contractor role to assist in designing, constructing and installing built-in bookcases, custom closets, pantry shelving and similar projects in single family homes around the Johns Creek, Alpharetta, and South Forsyth areas. 

Our ideal candidate has a positive attitude, friendly demeanor, strong internal work ethic and commitment to the carpentry profession. We prefer candidates who have some prior experience or training in finish carpentry, but are willing to train a motivated individual who works hard and learns quickly. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Contractors in this role will learn and improve these job-specific skills.

  • Follow established regulations and advocate for safety around the jobsite.

  • Identify, source and purchase necessary materials for projects.

  • Accurately measure and cut sheet goods (plywood) and dimensional lumber from a premade list. Cuts include miters, datos, rip and cross cuts.

  • Assemble cabinets, drawers and other projects. Identify and use appropriate hardware and tools. 

  • Drill pilot holes, pocket holes, use wood glue, finish nails and screws when needed.

  • Sand pieces and projects, fill nail holes. 

  • Assist in installing projects in client homes.

  • Own shop organization and cleaning, identify and load correct tools for daily jobsite needs.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Completion of a relevant carpentry training program or at least one year of carpentry experience preferred.

  • Experience using common hand tools and power tools.

  • Proficiency in job-related English and client communication.

  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, kneel and crouch for prolonged periods of time. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. 

Pay & Benefits

  • This is a full time hourly position paid on a weekly basis. Candidates are expected to work the necessary hours per week as an independent contractor to get the jobs done (usually around 35-40 hours per week).

  • Hourly pay range is $14.00 to $17.00+ based on experience.

  • This role provides practical, on the job training in finish carpentry. You will develop and frequently practice all the skills needed to progress from an Apprentice to Journeyman carpenter.
